Open Gorey is a follow up to our Pop-up Gallery & Studios Initiative that was submitted as part of Life Between Buildings: Putting Gorey at the Heart of Contemporary Art & World Culture during the Public Consultation Period in relation to the Development of a Public Realm Plan for the Town of Gorey. studentsZINE Pop-up Gallery & Studio Initiative asks for an initiative to be introduced by the council that would allow for the vacant commercial properties within the town to be opened up to the Arts, whilst informing local property owners of the benefits of occupying artists. This is not an appeal for money as Open Gorey believes that a Pop-up Gallery & Studios Initiative can run effectively without draining Arts Funding.

This site has been set up to further stress the importance of implementing such a framework for the future development of Gorey and its community. The implementation of such an initiative is of mutual benefit for the property owner & the artist with numerous case studies from around the world outlining these. One developer from New York has even said that by allowing his property to be used by artists he has got more people through the door then he would with a $5,000 ad campaign. I will post these up on the page for you all to read.

Open Gorey believes that it does not only have to be major cities that benefit from implementing Pop-up Galley & Studio Initiatives of this sort like New York, London, Camden, Dublin, Limerick etc. but the smaller, more rural Irish towns should also learn and benefit from similar initiatives. Lets make Gorey open up and Lead the way.
